A Closer Look at How Kinn Works in Practice

Kinn is an automatic volume management system engineered to adapt to natural fluctuations in limb volume. It attaches to a prosthetic socket and works as part of the overall fit system.

Kinn uses walking motion to automatically adjust socket fit throughout the day. With each step, the system converts vertical compression from natural movement into controlled compression against the limb through custom panels up to a set limit, helping maintain a more consistent fit as limb volume changes.

As limb volume fluctuates, even a well fitting socket can start to feel uncomfortable. Kinn responds to those changes in real time, helping maintain a more stable and comfortable socket fit.

Designed around clinical fit

The Kinn system is built into the way sockets are designed and fit. It is fabricated into the socket using a lamination plate or 4 hole adapter, and connected to the rest of the prosthetic leg components with standard connections. This allows it to fit naturally into existing prosthetic workflows and remain compatible with standard components used by prosthetists in clinical practice.

Adjustment through movement

Kinn uses walking motion to drive its adjustments. It features a vertical shock absorber that helps manage impact with each step while powering the system.

With each step, a mechanical component at the base of the socket pulls on a cable connected to custom panels. This gradually brings the panels inward until they reach a set limit, maintaining consistent contact with the limb as volume shifts.

Controlled compression

The level of compression of the custom panels on the limb is set by the prosthetist during fitting. Some people may prefer a more snug or more relaxed socket fit, so prosthetists can fine tune the feeling of the socket to each patient’s unique preferences.

The Kinn system maintains the set level of compression automatically, making small adjustments as needed throughout the day. This keeps the fit consistent without over tightening.
